Allium tricoccum – commonly known as ramps but also is sometimes called wild leek, spring onion, or ramson – is frequently collected and sold at farmers markets or served in upscale restaurants in the spring as a delicacy for its strong garlic-like odor and sweet spring onion flavor.

Do ramps come back every year?

Ramps seeds have a dormancy mechanism that must be broken to get them to germinate. They must undergo an extended cool, wet period in order for them to sprout. Planting the seed in the fall exposes it to the necessary cold weathering over the winter, and it will germinate in succeeding growing seasons.

Do ramps flower every year?
